An Analytical Simulation Model for Performance Measurement of RMS, by Using Tecnomatix

In modern manufacturing industry, reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) has the great potential for the future factory and has become the focal point in the research arena. Two master students from Syddansk Universitet have built a simulation model and developed a measurement method to analyze the performance of RMS from a manufacturing perspective.
With the assistance of analytical tools in Tecnomatix, a feasible configuration method of RMS is designed. The analysis results indicate that RMS could achieve high production flexibility meanwhile maintaining a comparable productivity in contrast with dedicated manufacturing lines. For those who are interested in RMS, the result could be seen as a modest spur of the further analysis. This research provides practical methods for configuring the RMS with the assistance of simulation software, and based on this, measurement models are explored to justify the performance of RMS. The result of this research could prompt more future valuable contributions in this area.
