From Our Board of Directors

Thank You from the PLM World Past Chairperson- Jon Jarrett

Thank you again for your support of the recent annual conference.  It is great to be a part of a worldwide organization with impacts that have been far reaching.  Over the past three years as the chairman of PLM World, I have enjoyed my association not only with the other board members and users, but also my association with the entire Siemens PLM Software team. They have provided the necessary support for a successful users group.  In reviews with other major software user groups, I have found that the leadership role of the major “user” conferences has shifted from the users to their parent companies.   Within PLM World, this role continues to reside within the Users Group, and I commend Siemens PLM for their continued support of a user-run conference.  Though the past few years have been a struggle, with the economy downfall and the subsequent financial effects on PLM World, then the flood in Nashville a year ago, I want you to know that PLM World is in good hands and financially sound.  John Manderfield from Consolidated Container is now the chairman of PLM World, and will continue along with the support of the Board to lead the organization for the next two years.  Thanks again for your support over the past three years and making this a Users Group that is unprecedented in the world!

News from Your Treasurer- Bob Chalou

What a great conference it was! After a couple of lean years it was great to see our record breaking attendance at this year’s conference. Many thanks to all of you who made this year special. Hopefully you noticed that as the attendance numbers grew we were able to put some amenities back into the agenda, like hot items for breakfast. We kept a keen eye on the attendance and many of the decisions were in fact last minute. With the conference being held at the Rio in Las Vegas again next year, we hope that you will have a good grasp of the layout of the facility and we hope to see you and many more next year! Please click here and take a minute to answer this poll about wireless internet at the conference.  Wireless use is very expensive in Las Vegas and we are wondering if smart phones have, or are, taking over for wireless.

A PLM Connection View From the Top - Joe Policani

The PLM World Annual User Group conference held on May 2 through May 6 was one of the best organized and attended conference we, Siemens PLM, have had the pleasure of participating and partnering with PLM World.

The tracts were well organized and the facility was very conducive for the event.

The PLM World Board, SIGs, and RUGS have done an excellent job in orchestrating this event to provide value to the user community.

We look forward to next year’s event and of course expect that it will be equal to or better than this year’s event.

Well done!

A Conference Summary – Kati Kenyon

Siemens PLM Software users from around the world gathered to exchange ideas and software expertise at Siemens PLM Connection, held in Las Vegas, NV May 2-5, 2011. More than 1900 users attended the conference, which is a 30% increase from last year. In addition to hearing the latest lessons and industry concepts through conference presentations, attendees spent hours networking with other users, PLM World partners, and Siemens PLM Software

Starting early Sunday morning 50 attendees gathered together at Angel Park Golf Club for an enjoyable game of golf. The high winds in Las Vegas that week made for a difficult but exciting game! PLM World would like to again thank all of the partners who contributed to this day and we are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

Once everyone returned from the golf outing, conference registration was open and ready for business. Like usual the volunteer staff at the registration desk was swamped when the clock hit 12 noon and didn’t slow down until Tuesday afternoon. The registration desk always stays busy during the conference and we hope that if you attended you had a few minutes to meet the welcoming volunteer crew this year. PLM World greatly appreciates all the help that they do each year, and hope that the attendees appreciate it as well.

Sunday night PLM World held the first reception of the conference. As always, Industry Night was a big hit. This year the event was packed with attendees and partners, who found it very easy to build conversations with others within the industry.

Monday began early with an opening General Session by Siemens PLM Software and deluxe PLM World partners. Break out sessions began Monday afternoon and ran through Thursday evening. Classrooms were maxed out to standing room only, and presenters had great attendance throughout the week in their sessions. Tuesday morning PLM World held 5 sign up required roundtable sessions. This is a new format that PLM World developed last year and again this year it was a great success. All sessions were filled and held great discussions on Teamcenter Security, Teamcenter Administration, CAD Modeling Standards, Using PLM to Drive Business Transformation and Engineering Validation. With the new PLM World website, everyone is hoping to keep these topics alive throughout the course of the year, not just at the conference. Please stay tuned to the new site for more information on

Along with user presentations going on throughout the week, Siemens PLM Software also held free hands on training sessions Monday-Friday. On Monday alone the training team filled 684 seats- more than twice the seats filled on Day 1 in 2010. This trend didn’t stop on Monday. As always Training was a huge success at this year’s conference and PLM World would like to thank the entire training staff once again for all of their efforts not only at the conference but year round.

PLM World would like to thank all of the speakers for their excellent, informative presentations and contributions. All speakers have generously made their presentations available for 2011 attendees online at the new PLM World website (all attendees must have filled out the conference survey to gain access). If you or your customers were unable to attend this year’s event, all presentations will be open to PLM World members at the first of the year.

Along with presenters and attendees, PLM World would like to thank all of our conference partners for a great exhibit at this year’s event. You can find a list of all conference partners here.

If you know your customers were unable to attend Siemens PLM Connection 2011, please make sure they check out the post conference information on our new website and conference blog.

Next years conference will again be held in Las Vegas, NV at the Rio All-Suite Hotel. Click here to mark your calendars for next year’s event.
