Data Migration with Teamcenter Requirements Integrator

Track: Deployment Excellence Connection

Session Number: 170374
Date: Thu, May 11th, 2017
Time: 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
Room: 202

Description:

Requirements management has been an integral part of the development process in various industries for years. As requirements management adopted in the automotive industry over the years, more and more car manufacturers and suppliers have been applying requirements management and making use of their own dedicated requirements authoring tools. As results, requirements captured in hardcopy documents or standalone applications are difficult to share between companies. Requirements Interchange Format (ReqIF) defines an open, non-proprietary exchange format which enable organizations to exchange requirements by transferring XML documents that comply to the ReqIF standard format. Teamcenter Requirement ReqIF Integrator supports the import and exchange of requirements documents between Teamcenter requirements and other requirement management tools. The exchange of the requirements can be configured in bi-directional, directional, one-time bulk import or in schedule based synchronization. Teamcenter Requirement Integrator with ReqIF interface was used to support Ford Motor Company for migrating requirements data from several legacy systems into Teamcenter. This presentation describes the methodology, process, and lessons learned of using the Teamcenter Requirement Integrator tool to bulk import data into Teamcenter using industry compliant Requirements Interchange Format (RIF/ReqIF).

Sub-Categorization: Migration/Upgrade
Session Type: Interactive Lecture

Related Industry: All Industries
Learning Objectives: ReqIF (Requirements Interchange Format) is an XML file with open and non-proprietary format that can be used to exchange requirements along with its associated metadata between software tools from different vendors. It improves collaboration between companies and also helps reduce development efforts through comprehensive import and export capability with multiple tools. This presentation details the experiences of using Teamcenter Requirement Integrator tool to support bulk data import into Teamcenter from several legacy systems in terms of methodology, configuration, data migration strategy, daily synchronization, and technical road-blocks encountered during the data migration process at a custom project.
Applicable Software: Teamcenter PLM Extensibility (Integrations), Teamcenter PLM Usability (Active Workspace), Teamcenter Requirements Management, Teamcenter System Engineering
