As complexity and diversity of systems increases current practices for controlling and sharing behavior and controls models are inefficient and increase risk that product decisions will be made without accurate prediction and verification of functionality and performance. Typical challenges include shortcomings in controlling model revisions and model metadata and being able to search for and find the correct models, defining and managing varying levels of model fidelity to support system level verifications, collaborating between engineering groups around shared models, and managing alternative model configurations to support decisions making. Mechanical engineering and controls engineering processes and teams are typically siloed – this results in inefficiency in creating system level simulations representing the complete behavior of the system, and prohibiting an effective assessment of top level vehicle performance attributes.
