Medical Device Manufacturing with MES - Product Design to Full Production

Track: Manufacturing Operations User Connection

Session Number: 170583
Date: Tue, May 9th, 2017
Time: 2:45 PM - 3:30 PM
Room: 208

Description:

How does manufacturing turn your new product designs into real products that improve lives, are safe to use, and comply with today’s stringent regulations?

You might be astonished if you see that your manufacturing systems are paper-based, and how difficult it is to manage complex requirements for manufacturing excellence, new product introductions, and product quality at your company.

Speakers Sascha Koch and Justin Ihara will show you how Micro Systems Engineering, Inc. (MSEI) transformed their manufacturing into an automated, paperless environment with Camstar Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) from Siemens. The MES tracks all aspects of manufacturing – engineering builds as well as production.

The MES automatically ensures that equipment is certified, components are traceable and within expiration limits, and that tests and inspections are properly conducted and recorded – preventing “quality escapes”. Real-time feedback (via configurable interlocks) gives operations and engineering the visibility they need to solve problems quickly and make necessary changes. MSEI has created a robust system that allows a new product to begin in a development state with MES tracking, then be seamlessly transitioned to a shippable product with full traceability via configuration within the MES. At any point, new products can be released into production quickly and effectively with scalable to both, Production needs as well as Engineering / R&D.

As a result, MSEI:

  • Streamlined operations by eliminating paper and non-value-add activities
  • Ensures manufacturing compliance
  • Provides feedback to design engineering for continuous improvements
  • Makes rapid engineering changes
  • Enables high-volume automation of manufacturing and test processes
