Mans products include not only mechanical parts but also electronic components and sometimes embedded software. Most companies using Teamcenter have successfully integrated their CAD system with Teamcenter, but many have not yet integrated their ECAD software, creating large gaps of information in product BOMs and engineering data.

An efficient solution is to bring the EBOMs into Teamcenter using the Teamcenter Office Client's Microsoft Excel import capability. Most ECAD tools can export an Excel parts list, which can then be imported into Teamcenter. Merging this with the CAD BOM allows for a complete product BOM that can be sent to procurement.

Details will be provided on how Simcenter 3D was used to provide predictive analysis that impacted the design, promoting collaboration between individuals and teams involved in designs (promoting faster design cycles, learning and closing knowledge gaps). One key element of the strategy was using NX CAD to develop simulation data while managing all of it in the Teamcenter environment. Benefits included early access to enhanced design data for multiple physical domains: mechanical, thermal, fluid dynamics, acoustics and electronics. This was a drastic change from when simulation was conducted with nonintegrated tools by isolated specialists.

With the end-to-end integration of electrical, electronic and mechanical aspects of design, users can now work in a fully synchronized environment from initial design to manufacture. We will take a look at the integration of Mentor Xpedition with NX PCB Exchange, demonstrating the productivity benefits of synchronizing PCB data across multiple disciplines. The collaboration can also be taken outside the design domain with an overview and demonstration of ELMA, the lightweight visualization tool for schematic, PCB layout and 3D CAD with full cross-probing and mark-up.
